I'm still looking at all options, but this is one thing that popped into my head. I have a ton of hotel points from work travel, so being able to use those would be nice. But I also understand being in the same complex as the doctor has a lot of advantages as well. Assuming normal traffic conditions, getting to the Clinic in TJ from Downtown San Diego takes probably 30-ish minutes. It's getting back into SD that can sometimes take a while (especially at certain times of the day). My suggestion: stay in Tijuana (Grand Hotel, Marriott, or an AirBnB) if your trip is no more than 2-3 days. San Diego makes more sense if you're there with enough time to vacation. I should also point out that San Diego isn't inexpensive either, so if you're already budgeting for the trip, you'll get much better rates in Tijuana + having the convenience of staying near the clinic. All my flights have been paid for that way... Buuuut the convenience and price of The Grand is totally worth it. If you're staying an extra day or few for aftercare, Ian is really good about fitting in several if you feel you need it, and it's just a little stroll through the complex to get there. The room service food is acceptable/convenient/affordable too. I wouldn't want to deal with back and forth over the border personally. Plus add up the cost of back and forth... Not sure what brand you are looking for. There is a Hyatt within walking distance. There is no way in Hell I would stay in SD and go back and forth every day. Took me almost 2 hours to get back.
